P.O.I.W Presentations
The Power of Influential Words (P.O.I.W) is driven by the hope that students in K -12 harness after learning how to: 1.) deflect insults 2.) receive compliments and 3.) Respond vs. React to a conflict. I find great satisfaction in doing what I was created to do---inspire YOU with words.

The Miracle of the Movement
Miracles happen daily. As founder, I witness them every time I speak to children and adults. I literally watch people brighten in their countenance when I address them as prince or princess, king or queen. The majesty of the P.O.I.W movement occurs when children and adults become more cognizant of their word choices and then they DECIDE to use their words to help, heal, and hail one another. P.O.I.W shows how words whisper life and death.
OUR words create miracles.
The Mother of the Movement, K.C. Cristian
I'm a four-time author, a speaker for 18 years, a music producer, and a sports commentator who happens to adore children. I love them, listen to them, and lead them back to center whenever they stray. P.O.I.W's books, events, and workshops provide positive options for kids.
UP Close & Personal with K.C. Cristian
I keep in mind how my predecessor, Harriet Tubman, hid in a pile of manure in order to lead her people to freedom. P.O.I.W aims to escort POWs (prisoners of WORDs) into the land of the "undeniably great." More on K.C. Cristian.
The Movement in a Mouthful
P.O.I.W trains attendees of all backgrounds how to project and protect themselves with proper word choices. This mission revolves around opening the ears of every participant to show them how words resonate in the human psyche and how we can use words to empower others.

Your passion about this topic resonates when you speak about it. It is clear that you truly believe in the transformative power of words. Thank you for demonstrating how we can empower our youth.

It's shocking what our kids really say!
I used to believe that because my daughter went to one of the better public schools in the state of Georgia, she would surely not have to succumb to verbal bullying. Yet after she was called a "a big fat [expletive]" by a fellow 2nd grader, I gulped a piece of humble pie and proceeded to pioneer an alternative to the ancient act of bullying. Hence, the birth of the POW movement.
I have taken the POW presentation to blacks and whites, rich and poor, public and private school students. Sadly, I've found that their taunts mirror each another. Our children are verbally destroying one another. WE adults MUST stop ignoring their verbal attacks as "child's play." Bullying is not a class thing or a race thing; it's an ugly thing that causes human catastrophes. Our kid's words hurt.
If you don't believe me, ask any playground attendant or afterschool bus driver what kids commonly say to each other. Read this BAD WORDS LIST and understand that our children need guidance.
In this video ,I represent the mother bear; I know that if I don't help students TODAY, many children won't see tomorrow. This is my mission, my calling. I act NOW to protect future generations.
Final Thoughts...
I thought long and hard about publishing these vulgar terms. Like many of you, I was appalled and somewhat in denial as the children freely shared them. Yet, I decided NOT to wait for another child to suffer. I decided to demonstrate how these taunts were: WRONG!
During my presentation, none of the children embraced these 'bad' words. In fact, when asked what they liked most about POW, without fail the campers conceded that
"the good words (i.e. best friend forever, you rock, Thank you, and I like your shoes) made [them] feel better." Many of our children are longing for a word of encouragement. Some of them even admitted that their self-esteem improved after just one POW session.
When I look into their eyes, I know that they seek refuge from the senseless act of bullying. POW provides a viable alternative. Let's stop assuming that they'll work this epidemic out by themselves. They-don't-know-how. H.E.L.P! Ask your PTA or PTO to organize a POW presentation TODAY to help equip your child's class with strategies that train them to win with words.
BEWARE!
THIS BAD WORDS LIST MAY SHOCK SOME READERS.

The History of Power of Influential Words (P.O.I.W)
by K.C. Cristian
In December 2008, I performed an internal audit of my life and discovered that what mattered most to me was 1.) what God thought of me and 2.) how I was raising my daughter. Ultimately, I surmised that despite my princess being a well-adjusted child and a great student, I was still failing her. How? Well, I concluded that if I continued to live in my safe little bubble, which facilitated my willingness to ignore my daughter's peers who were suffering from a lack of confidence in the classroom, poor self-esteem, and/or some form of verbal abuse, I would reap what I sowed. That is, my selfishness would come back to haunt me or even harm my child.
Some may think I'm paranoid, but many of us have known people whose pent up childhood pain somehow manifested into some type of destructive force later in life. Let me simplify this analogy even more. Compare the music of the Motown era to that of today's hip hop generation. Motown music expressed a desire for love, respect, relationships, and affection. Conversely, much of today's rap lyrics command an ear for revenge, psychoanalysis, and self-adulation. Why? Many of today's artists speak from what they know: a neglected, dysfunctional life.
If we think that by ignoring "those poor, disadvantaged youth," we will somehow avoid their impact, we are sadly mistaken. These same children create "cool" lingo and start fashion trends (e.g. sagging pants.) Their cries today will be our sorrow tomorrow. Juveniles kill each other without hesitation. Very soon, they will be bold enough to visit our domain with similar chaos.
Today, I choose to sacrifice my comfort to listen to them, love them, and lead them NOW...while they'll let me. Join the Power of Influential Words (P.O.I.W) movement. P.O.I.W offers students techniques on how to project and protect themselves with empowering word strategies .
Words bring life!!! P.O.I.W is a revolution of the mind! Join us today! (Ask your school, church, non-profit organization, or corporation to schedule a P.O.I.W presentation.)

Moments that Moved Me
I have already spoken to 1000 attendees of the Power of Influential Words (P.O.I.W) movement and while each presentation was special in its own unique way, there were moments that simply knocked me off my feet and humbled me as the instrument chosen to spread this message. Here are a few such examples:
YMCA of Metro Atlanta
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta sent me a "thank you" email for my help. I appreciated that gesture because the words "thank you" make the world a better place.
At the YMCA in Hiram, GA:
Ten parents were present in the YMCA community room. All of them were women except one, a father and husband. Though I invited feedback, this man said nothing during the presentation. I was a bit nervous about his final assessment. As the happy attendees filed out at the end the presentation, this quiet man came up to me and said "This was powerful, you need to have one of these for MEN ONLY." Needless to say, I was blown away by the impact that the POW movement had on him.
At the Ray of Hope Christian Center:
A young man left me his home phone number with a note that read, "I have never been called a prince before, you're going to have to call me." I chuckled at the beauty of his bravado. Then, a young girl came up to me and said that she was not worthy of receiving the gift that I had given her and the rest of the class because she didn't believe herself to be a princess. I literally fell to my knees and begged her to see a different point of view. I showed her the reflection of her smooth, dark skin to prove how beautiful she is. Forty minutes later, I watched her interact confidently with others.

Sticks and stones
may break her bones,
but your words will
either build or kill
her spirit.

U.S. Department of Education via Email
I received a note of thanks for sending a copy of my e-book: The Bamboo of Blacks in School. I'm grateful that I can join them in an effort to support students nationwide.
At Our House Inc., (OHI) in Decatur, GA:
One parent came up to me and asked that I become her mentor. One of the OHI caseworkers commented that parents were still sending favorable feedback about the presentation a MONTH later.
At the YMCA in Cobb County, GA:
After the presentation, 40 little children -- Black, White, Latino, and Asian, surrounded me, hugged me, and quite frankly, shocked me when some said "I love you."
At Winnona Park Elementary School in Decatur, GA:
As I was parting ways with one second grade class, many of them asked "When are you coming back...please come back."
At an Immunization Drive at Knollwood Elementary School:
A child confessed that she'd been abused by her classmates who called her "ugly" and "stupid." This child is a talented artist and a caring sibling to her younger brothers. I reminded that child that she was a princess, and I spoke to her mother to advise Mom of techniques to employ that would build her princess' self-esteem.
I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that the P.O.W movement will bless Black America and America as a whole. That is why I press onward toward that goal.
K.C. Cristian and her Princess J.
P.O.W at Avondale Middle School
I had the distinct honor of speaking to students at the Avondale Middle School in Avondale Estates, GA. The hope that I saw in their eyes truly validates the mission for which I've been called. I spoke to the boys and then to the girls in an abbreviated version of my workshop. Despite my race against the clock, I felt like time stood still as I unraveled what seemed to be a mystery to these young minds--the notion that words hurt and heal. They truly did grasp the fact that their words had life.
It was an awesome experience. Ironically, I find it hard to express in "words" the depth of gratitude that I feel EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY time that I reach out and show this generation a better way to use their words. Please read what attendees wrote:
I felt very influenced by this speech. It made me feel like I am somebody, not a piece of dirt. It made me feel like I am beautiful. It made me feel pretty on the inside. I don't have to worry about what other folks say!
Grade 6 Student
This presentation was wonderfully amazing; [it] lifted my spirit and my soul. I have to think about many things now that my eyes are open. Ms. Cristian thank you so very much for your words of wisdom, strength, kindness, and beauty. I am so happy you came today. Thank you.
Grade 8 Student
I really learned that words have power to make you feel good or bad, so you need to be aware of the words that you [say]. [They] can make a great difference in yours or someone else's life.
Grade 7 Student
Excellent modeling of word usage. Our kids definitely seemed to have enjoyed and learned from this presentation. Word usage is such an important aspect for middle schoolers. Thanks for an entertaining and knowledgeable experience.
Grade 7 Teacher
P.O.W changes the way parents, teachers, and K-12 students express themselves. Again, I was so very honored to meet and greet these future leaders.
POIW: Classroom Management - Elementary
POIW Elementary trains students how to govern their words and actions within a system, which creates an environment whereby an offense to one child is an offense to all. Each time a child is ill-treated, he or she may report the offense in a discreet manner. Reported incidents are tallied weekly to determine whether the class will receive a group reinforcement for acceptable behavior. POW seeks to teach children social etiquette and self-empowerment.
POIW: Experience & Benefits
For 17 years, I've enjoyed speaking to small and large groups in public, private, religious, government, and corporate settings. POIW enhances
a child's ability to articulate himself, which may result in:
1.) Greater self-esteem
2.) Better test scores
3.) Fewer behavioral incidents
4.) Improved Social Skills
Children are worthy investments. Make your school POIW-safe TODAY.
